Enneagram test: What Is My Enneagram?
Lifestyle · Personal Discovery · Personality

By BrainFall Staff - Updated: April 9, 2024

For decades, the enneagram test has been used to assess people’s personalities. This test features nine distinct enneagram types, which are represented on the points of a geometric figure called an enneagram. In addition to having one type, everyone also has a ‘wing’ and a ‘stress point.’ If you’re curious about where you fit in this personality test, this is the quiz for you.

Knowing where you fit on the enneagram will help you understand your motivations and your stressors. This test is useful for those who want to learn more about themselves to aid in their personal growth.

So, are you an organized type one, a sensitive type two, an ambitious type three, a creative type four, an inquisitive type five, a loyal type six, a spontaneous type seven, a confident type eight, or an easygoing type nine? Answer a few simple questions, and we’ll tell you your enneagram type!

      enneagram test

The enneagram test is a personality test that is often used for self-discovery and personality development. The test is believed to have first been created in fourth-century Alexandria by Evagrius Ponticus. However, Bolivian philosopher Óscar Ichazo is credited with creating the contemporary enneagram test in the 1950s. Ichazo came up with the idea for the test's personality types.

The enneagram test includes nine personality types, which are represented on the points of a nine-sided geometric figure known as an enneagram. Nine numbers are drawn around this figure, and the types are connected by the inner lines in the figure. According to the test's theory, everyone has one basic personality type. They also have two wings, which are the numbers on either side of their type. For example, a type eight's wings are seven and nine. These are the 'second side' to someone's personality, and they complement their basic type.

In addition, the connected lines in the enneagram are called 'the direction of disintegration' and the 'direction of integration.' The idea is that, for example, when a type nine is under stress, they'll take on the personality traits of a type six. Then, when a type nine is showing growth, they'll take on the traits of a healthy type three. Since the 1950s, the enneagram personality test has been used as a tool for self-discovery and understanding of one's motivations and inner world.

Buckle up, dear quiz-takers, as we're about to embark on a whimsical journey beyond the surface of the mighty Enneagram. It's time to add color to the outlines of your personality portrait with the splendid details of wings and subtypes, as well as the pulsing heart and calculating mind of this ancient typology!

Beyond the Basic: Exploring Wings and Subtypes

Ever considered that your Enneagram type was just the tip of the iceberg? Well, you're onto something! Our Enneagram profile has wings—and no, we don't mean the feathery kind. These are adjacent numbers on either side of our dominant type, and they add a complex twist to our personality recipe. For example, if you're a charming Type 3, you might have a Type 2 wing that polishes up those social skills to a sparkling shine.

But wait, there's more! Dive into the ocean of Enneagram subtypes and you'll discover three distinct flavors for each type, influenced by instincts: self-preservation, sexual (one-to-one relationships), and social. It's not just about survival or romance; it's about how these instincts play out in our dance of life—from how we protect our personal snack stash to the way we mingle at parties.

      • Self-Preservation: Security check! This subtype is about keeping those ducks in a row for a cozy and safe nest.
      • Sexual: One-on-one connections that sizzle are the focus here, whether it's in love or that intense debate about the best pizza topping.
      • Social: These types are all about the group, leading the conga line of community and belonging.

The Emotional Heart and Rational Mind of the Enneagram

Every Enneagram number has a core motivation that drives their behavior, like a personal theme song playing on loop. This driving force ties into our fears and desires, whispering to us whether to chase that spotlight or avoid it like the plague (ah, the drama!). Type descriptions give us a clue about our natural habitat—is it backstage managing the show or upfront receiving applause for our air guitar solo?

      • Type 2: Heart emojis galore for these nurturing souls craving love and validation.
      • Type 5: Step into the mind palace of these brilliant thinkers lusting after knowledge, not chaos.

Let's flip to the cerebral side. Our Enneagram nudge us to face some head-scratching challenges, whilst also being adaptive and sharpening our self-awareness skills. It's a full package—keeping our core beliefs in check, honing our behaviors to be top-notch, and making sure our love life is blockbuster-worthy.

So there you have it! Our Enneagram is the secret sauce that makes us our sassy, savvy selves. Stay cheeky, keep exploring, and who knows, maybe you'll find your Enneagram wing is the one you'll want to ride into the sunset. Until then, keep flexing those self-discovery muscles on BrainFall, and let's make figuring ourselves out the adventure of a lifetime! 🚀
