The Ultimate ALCS Quiz For MLB Experts

The Ultimate ALCS Quiz For MLB Experts
      Sports

By BrainFall Staff - Published: October 29, 2021

Ask any real American League fan if they would rather attend a World Series or an American League Championship Series and they would have to think about it. Some of the greatest moments in baseball history happened during the ALCS, which started back in 1969 when the league added four new teams. It was originally a best of five series, but it increased to a best of seven series in 1985.

From Chris Chambliss’ walk-off home run in 1976 to the epic Boston Red Sox 3-1 comeback in 2004 and the nearly impossible comeback by the Houston Astros in 2020 after trailing 3-0 in the series, the ALCS has given fans every ounce of excitement they could squeeze from both teams. For most hardcore American League fans, it does not get much better than the ALCS. We have the perfect quiz to test how much you remember about the legendary ALCS!

      ALCS

The American League Championship Series began in 1969 with the Baltimore Orioles sweeping the Minnesota Twins, 3-0. When the ALCS debuted, there was no division series, only two division winners from each league. Those four teams squared off in their best of five-game, League Championship Series to see who would go to the World Series that season. In 1985, the format changed, and they increased it to a best of seven-game series, which is where it remains today.

In order to advance to the World Series, the two American League teams that make it to the ALCS have to give even more than they had during the regular season and fight as hard as ever. With so many amazing moments over the past 50 years of the ALCS, it's nearly impossible to pick out the best of the best.
