How well do you know Geralt of Rivia?

How well do you know Geralt of Rivia?
Fantasy · Television · Video Games

By BrainFall Staff - Updated: April 9, 2024

Geralt of Rivia is a man of great names and greater fame. If you’ve picked up a fantasy book, gaming controller, or a Netflix subscription in the last few years, you’ve probably heard of Geralt. Maybe you haven’t but would like to learn. Perhaps you think you possess the gold standard of White Wolf knowhow.

Either way, you’ve come to the right quiz. Your knowledge of Geralt’s history with women, appearances in media (especially the books and CD Projekt Red’s Witcher 3: Wild Hunt video game adaptation), Geralt’s adventures, and his occupational hazards as a Witcher will all be tested. You’ll also need to know about other characters in the Witcher universe, like the sorceress Yennefer or the princess Ciri.

The Geralt gauntlet won’t prove as gruesome as the Trial of the Grasses, but if you run it, you’ll know if you’re a Geralt genius or simply the Boy/Girl Who Cried White Wolf!

      Geralt of Rivia

Geralt of Rivia's bloodstained legacy stretches a vast, diverse landscape in the world of fiction and the often-stranger realm of humans' reality. The life Geralt of Rivia famously leads is a Witcher on the ambiguously named Path. Throughout his travels, Geralt uses his weaponry like a painter would a brush (though a little rougher at times). He impresses everyone from humans to guards to sorceresses like Yennefer.

The White Wolf's abilities include incredible fighting prowess as well as an incredible mastery of sarcasm. Geralt's mixture of brains and brawn attracts warriors and especially women (particularly of the sorceress variety) to his side. With plenty of company comes plenty of nicknames. Geralt is known as the White Wolf, Butcher of Blaviken,  Ravix of Fourhorn, and Butcher of White Orchard. The name Geralt wanted to call himself was the far more complicated Geralt Roger Eric du Haute-Bellegarde, but his trainer Vesemir denied the ridiculous request.

Geralt leads eight books in the acclaimed Witcher series. He also leads a series of comic books, which includes volumes like Curse of Crows. He's accompanied by memorable characters like Princess Ciri and the sorceress Yennefer.

Success translates from publications to PlayStations. Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (developed by CD Projekt Red) ranks among the top 20 best-selling video games of all time. Geralt's prowess as a pixelated protagonist opened opportunities for the character to make guest appearances in Soul Calibur and Monster Hunter World as well. Geralt's popularity seeps into Hollywood. Henry Cavill dropped the Superman cape to pick up two swords and play Geralt of Rivia on the Witcher Netflix series!

How well do you know Geralt of Rivia?

So you think you've got the silver sword-swinging savvy to match wits with the great Geralt of Rivia, do you? Well, we're all ears and eager to embark on a journey through the perilous paths and treacherous trivia of our favorite monster-hunting maverick. Geralt isn't your average hero; he's the stoic, silver-haired witcher known for his dry wit and a tendency to find trouble, or rather, for trouble to find him. Aren't we all just a coin toss away from courting chaos in the Continent?

A lone wolf meditates by a crackling fire, surrounded by the remnants of a recent battle

Navigating Geralt's world of The Witcher isn't for the faint of heart. It's a tale teeming with magic, murky moral quandaries, and, of course, beasts that lurk in the darkest corners. Our Geralt has faced them all, from ethereal wraiths to cunning sorceresses, wielding not only his blades but a sharp tongue that's gotten him out of more binds than we'd care to admit.

It's time to test your knowledge: were you paying attention to Geralt of Rivia's epic adventures, or just admiring the scenic vistas of Velen from the back of Roach? Buckle up, grab your potions, and let's find out if you have what it takes to walk, talk, and quip just like the White Wolf himself! We promise it'll be almost as fun as a night at the Passiflora – almost.

The Man, The Myth, The White Wolf

A lone white wolf stands atop a rocky cliff, its piercing eyes gazing out into the distance, exuding an aura of mystery and power

Before we dive in, let's be clear: knowing Geralt of Rivia is like trying to map the stars in the sky—there's always more to discover. Buckle up, because we're about to trace the footsteps of the School of the Wolf's most famed and white-haired alumnus!

      Who Is Geralt?

So, who is this enigmatic man who's got a love for leather and a penchant for potions? Geralt of Rivia, a name that echoes through taverns and terrifies monsters in the darkest corners. Born to the sorceress Visenna and the warrior Korin, Geralt's life was destined for the extraordinary from the get-go. His monikers, "Gwynbleidd" (that's Elder Speech for "White Wolf," folks), and "Butcher of Blaviken" give hints to his dual nature: a relentless protector with the heart of a lone wolf.

      The Path of a Witcher

Geralt's journey as a Witcher began with the rigorous training at Kaer Morhen. Imagine the worst boot camp you can, and then sprinkle it with deadly combat, magical learning, and some really nasty concoctions called the Trial of the Grasses. That's the stuff—those very mutations— that honed his reflexes, speed, and gave him abilities that make average Joes weep with envy. We're talking about dodging crossbow bolts in slow-mo and landing hits faster than a cheating gambler's excuses.

      Friendships Along the Road

Oh, Geralt's life isn't all about slicing up ghoulies. Our White Wolf has got pals! There's Dandelion, a bard whose voice could convince a dragon to retire, and Zoltan, who's tough as nails (if the nails were also seasoned warriors). Then of ourse, there's the spell-flinging femme fatale Triss Merigold, and dear old Vesemir, the mentor who's like a father and a drill sergeant built into one. Not to forget, Geralt can speak to Roach, his trusty steed, with more affection than most humans manage in a lifetime. It's a curious bunch, but then, what else would you expect in the life of a legendary monster slayer?

Now, don't let us keep you from the quest at hand. Are you ready to prove how well you know the White Wolf, or will you let the quiz monsters best you?

      Intrigues and Alliances

Geralt of Rivia, isn't just your average monster-hunting hunk with fabulous hair; he's a man knotted up in the political intrigues of the time, navigating treacherous alliances with a moral compass that spins more than a weather vane in a tornado. So, let's saddle up, folks, and journey into the world of a Witcher who's more than just a sword for hire.

      Notable Relationships

Geralt's world is a tapestry woven with threads of complex relationships. His bond with Ciri, the Child of Destiny, is as tough as the steel of his sword. Thanks to the unpredictable Law of Surprise, he ends up playing adoptive father to the girl who is as close to kin as it gets for our lone wolf. And let's not forget his lifelong friendship with Dandelion, the poet who could charm birds from the trees—when he's not getting them both into trouble, that is.

      Geralt's Influence on Politics

Now, don't let that brooding exterior fool you, we're dealing with a man who has the political sway of a king without ever sitting on a throne. He's been in the thick of it with rulers like Queen Meve of the Northern Realms, and boy, does the intrigue thicken faster than a witch's brew. Geralt's decisions have altered the balance of power in realms like Temeria, and whether he likes it or not, his sword's swing can cast a long shadow over the future of nations.

      Love Life and Moral Choices

What about romance, you ask? Geralt's love life could give the most tawdry of soap operas a run for their money. His tumultuous relationship with Yennefer of Vengerberg is a tale of passion, sorcery, and—let's face it—enough emotional baggage to fill a couple of saddlebags. And then, drum roll, there's Triss Merigold and Shani. Both have sparked flames in Geralt's heart at times, proving that even witchers aren't immune to a bit of romantic drama. Each love interest has led Geralt down paths of questionable morality, where the choices are as grey as his wardrobe. And these romances? They're often tangled up with the fates of empires, mages, and the non-humans he often stands up for.
