      Star Wars

By BrainFall Staff - Updated: April 30, 2024

Have you ever thought about which side you would be on if you were in Star Wars? If you have, you’ve likely considered what it would be like to have The Force. Would you join the light side or the dark side? If you were force-sensitive, you could join the Star Wars universe and feel which way to lean. One thing that could lead you the right way would be your midichlorian count.

For those who are curious about midichlorians, they are pieces of cells in all living things. If you have a higher midichlorian count, you could have a higher sense of the power of The Force. Then, it’s up to you to see which side of The Force speaks to you. So if you’ve watched Star Wars and have found yourself rooting for Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader, you probably know which side you’re on. But, would you be a Jedi Master in the Star Wars universe? Take this quiz to see what your midichlorian count might be.

      Midichlorian count

Midichlorian count is set in the Star Wars universe, which was created by George Lucas. The count is based on the number of midi chlorians per cell in someone's body. These microscopic life forms allow for a connection with The Force, and a large count of midichlorians could mean someone is more force sensitive. Jedi masters are known for having high midichlorian counts. Master Yoda, long believed to be the standard-bearer for The Force, was surpassed by Anakin Skywalker. Anakin Skywalker, whose midiclorian count is rumored to be 20,000, went on to become Darth Vader.

Midichlorian count is important to the Jedi Order because it showed who may have force sensitivity. Per cell, the more midichlorians that were found, the better chance for a person to have a connection to The Force. In Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, Qui Gon Jinn had Obi-Wan Kenobi run a midichlorian test on Anakin Skywalker's sample, which revealed that he might be the chosen one that the Jedi Order was looking for.

      What’s Your Midichlorian Count?

Ever wondered if you'd be more at home on Coruscant or chilling with the Ewoks on Endor? It all comes down to those tiny residents residing in every cell of your being: midi-chlorians. These microscopic forces of nature are not just the galaxy's most exclusive club members, but they dictate your potential to tap into the Force. Are you on the high end like Anakin Skywalker or more of an average-Jedi Joe?

A glowing tube measures midichlorian count in a lab setting

If the phrases "use the Force, Luke" or "I am your father" send thrilling shivers down your spine, then the question of your midichlorian count isn't just a matter of curiosity—it's a rite of passage. Diving into the realms of Star Wars, one can't help but ponder where they'd fit in the epic saga. Would you be swinging lightsabers with the Jedi, or is the allure of the Dark Side a tad bit compelling? George Lucas certainly opened a can of worms, or should we say midi-chlorians, and we're here to help you find out just how many you're sporting.

Grab your robes and your lightsaber (toy ones count too!) because at BrainFall, we've concocted a quiz that will reveal your midichlorian count faster than you can say "hyperspace." Who knows? You might just have what it takes to be the next master of the Force... or at least, master the art of answering our questions. Let's find out where in the Star Wars galaxy you truly belong. Are you ready, young Padawan?

      Deciphering the Force's Bloodline

A swirling galaxy of red and blue energy, with strands of light connecting distant stars. The Force's power emanates from the center, pulsing with unseen potential

Welcome, Force enthusiasts! Before you jump into finding out your own midichlorian count, let's get down to the nitty-gritty of what midi-chlorians really mean for your connection to the Force. Remember, this is the secret sauce to figuring out whether you're more of a Yoda or just another cantina patron.

The Science (or Lack Thereof) Behind Midi-Chlorians

Midi-chlorians, not to be confused with your biology class’s mitochondria, are the microscopic life forms that apparently hang out in our cells making us possibly Force-sensitive. They're like the little buddies that whisper to the Force, "Hey, this one's got potential." Although let's be real, science in the Star Wars galaxy is as clear as mud soup on Dagobah. We don't have a midi-chlorian test kit lying around, but we do know that these little guys are crucial for characters like Anakin Skywalker, who apparently had a midi-chlorian count off the charts! A symbiotic relationship, they say? We're just hoping they pay rent for their room in our cells.

      Notable Midi-Chlorian Count by Character:

      • Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vader): Over 20,000 - Force prodigy alert!
      • Yoda: Roughly 17,000 - Strong in him, the Force is, hmm?
      • Palpatine (Darth Sidious): Count unknown - But let's face it, probably high in the sneaky Sith way.
      • Luke Skywalker & Obi-Wan Kenobi: Up there but not chart-toppers like dear old dad Anakin.
      • Qui-Gon Jinn: More focused on the living Force - but we bet his count was nothing to scoff at.

      Famous Midi-Chlorian Count-Off

Imagine if there was an annual Jedi and Sith mixer where everyone compared their midi-chlorian counts. What a scene that would be! Unfortunately, the only count-off we really hear about is Anakin's, which was a surefire sign that he was the Chosen One. Talk about overachiever's syndrome, right? And although Yoda didn't strut around throwing his count in everyone's face, it's implied that his numbers were up there with the greats. Then we have our mystery man, Palpatine; his midi-chlorian count is the big question mark, but considering his knack for the dark side, we imagine it's sufficiently impressive.

As for us, while we won't be swinging lightsabers anytime soon or commanding the Senate, we can still have some fun taking the quiz to discover our hypothetical midichlorian level, but let's keep it light—no Force Lightning, okay?

      Cultural Impact and Legacy

Before we saber-swing into the nitty-gritty, strap in because we're about to make the jump to lightspeed, exploring the cultural impact and midi-chlorians' epic legacy across both the 'Star Wars' lore and the vibrant tapestry of fandom.

      Midi-Chlorians in Star Wars Lore

Midi-chlorians, those microscopic powerhouses residing within cells, introduced a whole new perspective into the 'Star Wars' universe, particularly in "The Phantom Menace." This controversial concept canonically links the strength of a Force-user's connection to the living Force with these cellular sidekicks. Memorable characters like "Chosen One" Anakin Skywalker—with a count higher than Master Yoda's—altered the mythology of what it means to be strong with the Force, shifting focus toward a more tangible explanation.

Consider, for instance, the debate about whether midi-chlorians favor the light side or the dark side, echoing the eternal struggle within the galaxy. Figures like Mace Windu and Obi-Wan are etched into our minds as the embodiment of the light, with Obi-Wan's guidance connecting Anakin to the Force through training and not merely through his midi-chlorian count. Oppositely, nefarious personas like Darth Plagueis and Darth Sidious—ever so cunning in their knowledge of the dark side—push the boundaries of midi-chlorian manipulation, aiming to create life itself and revealing the profound implications of these tiny entities on the franchise's canonical landscape.

Beyond the Galaxy: Midi-Chlorians' Role in Fandom

Midi-chlorians made the leap from science fiction to cultural reference. These 'Star Wars' staples are now synonymous with geeky pillow talk and have sparked endless fan theories. Does one's midi-chlorian level guarantee a more profound manipulation of the Force? Could Aayla Secura out-duel Asajj Ventress if their count were swapped? And, of course, the character-driven musings: did Darth Maul's impressive prowess with a lightsaber compensate for a lesser midi-chlorian presence?

Then enter the enduring legacy within references throughout literature and reality. Fans concoct their imagined midi-chlorian counts faster than you can say "May the Force be with you," driving the conversation into areas beyond the screen, like how different Clone Wars episodes might have turned out if every clone had unique midi-chlorian counts. Imaginations run wild picturing lightsaber duels and Force feats—one only has to mention midi-chlorians at comic cons to unleash a Sarlacc pit of dialogue and debate that unites and defines Star Wars culture.
