Which Barry Cast Member Are You?

Which Barry Cast Member Are You?
Television · What Character Am I?

By BrainFall Staff - Updated: April 30, 2024

It’s rare that you think of someone like an assassin as a person worthy of a redemption story. To an extent, that’s what the show Barry is about. The show follows a hitman who wants to turn into an actor in an acting class and the repercussions of what happens when his two worlds collide. Bill Hader’s character, Barry Berkman, tries to make it as an actor by the name of Barry Block. Barry season 1 was a massive success, and Barry season 2 and Barry season 3 have also been incredible critical darlings.

If you’ve seen the show, you know there are a ton of colorful characters in it. Henry Winkler, Sarah Goldberg, Stephen Root, and Anthony Carrigan are just a few of the actors that make up the cast. If you’re a fan of Bill Hader from Saturday Night Live, you won’t even believe his transformation. So, if you have seen the show or are interested in it, you may be wondering which character you’re most like. Are you a NoHo Hank or are you a Sally Reed? Maybe studying with Gene Cousineau is more your speed. Take this quiz to find out which of the Barry cast members you are.

      Barry cast

Barry is a black comedy series set in Los Angeles. It was created by Bill Hader and Alec Berg. It stars Bill Hader as the main character Barry Berkman, a former U.S, veteran who turns into a hitman and does contract killing for Monroe Fuches, played by Stephen Root. Barry decides he would rather be an actor than a hitman, so he takes an acting class taught by Gene Cousineau, played by Henry Winkler. In the class, he meets Sally Reed, played by Sarah Goldberg, along with other actors, and his life changes. But his previous work as a hitman comes calling and sets off a collision course of his real identity and fake one.

The show has won numerous Emmy and Golden Globe awards for Bill Hader, Henry Winkler, and others. The cast is widely lauded, including the work of Sarah Goldberg as Sally Reed, Stephen Root as Monroe Fuches, Anthony Carrigan as NoHo Hank, Bill Hader as Barry Berkman/Barry Block, Sarah Burns as Detective Mae Dunn, Paula Newsome as Detective Janice Moss, and D'Arcy Carden as Natalie Greer.

Anthony Carrigan, Henry Winkler, and Bill Hader were all up for Emmy Awards in 2022. Sarah Goldberg was up previously. There are so many storylines to follow when you're watching Barry. There are ones with NoHo Hank and the Chechen Mob. There's one with the entire acting class taught by Gene Cousineau. The Henry Winkler-Bill Hader dynamic is terrific. The entire show even shifted when Barry killed Moss and he has to convince Sally that he is right for her. The writing staff is really impressive with Bill Hader, Alec Berg, Jason Kim, Emma Barrie, Emily Heller, Duffy Boudreau, Liz Sarnoff, and more.

Which Barry Cast Member Are You?

Calling all the hitmen with a flair for the dramatic and aspiring actors with questionable day jobs! It's time to settle the ultimate question haunting fans since 2018: which character from HBO's dark comedy-drama "Barry" are we? Between dodging bullets and chasing dreams, Barry and the gang have sprinted through our screens and our hearts.

A group of name tags with "Barry" cast members' names on a table, with a sign above reading "Which Barry Cast Member Are You?"

Yes, we've all imagined which of the complex, laugh-out-loud personas we embody when watching "Barry", the show that masterfully mixes the gritty with the witty. Are you like Barry himself, a brooding hitman with a surprising inclination for the arts? Or maybe you're more of a Sally, striving for stardom with passion that could outshine the Hollywood sign itself? Could you be the scene-stealing NoHo Hank, with a heart of gold and a business of... less gold?

Without further ado, let's dive into the thespian world of crime and comedy. It's our time to play casting director and match us with our "Barry" alter egos. Lights, camera, action – let's find out which cast member from "Barry" reflects our inner Hollywood star!

      Meet the Charismatic Cast

A group of diverse characters stand together, each with their own unique personality and style, exuding charm and charisma

Join us as we stroll through the lives of the vibrant personas that populate the world of our favorite dark comedy. Each character in "Barry" adds their unique flavor to a concoction that's part Hollywood satire, part thrilling crime drama.

      Barry Berkman: The Bumbling Hitman

Played by the multifaceted Bill Hader, Barry Berkman is your not-so-average hitman with a heart of... well, maybe not gold, but something endearingly tarnished. Craving a life with fewer bullets and more Broadway lights, Barry finds himself in Los Angeles, toe-tapping into an acting class that might just be his ticket out of the shadows.

      Sally Reed: The Aspiring Starlet

Sarah Goldberg dazzles as Sally Reed, the starlet whose dreams rival the height of palm trees in sunny California. Her struggle is as real as it gets in the cutthroat playground of Hollywood. She's a feisty go-getter with enough grit to take on the world, one audition at a time.

      Gene Cousineau: The Eccentric Mentor

None other than Henry Winkler gives life to Gene Cousineau, a man whose acting advice is as enigmatic as his past success. Gene's larger-than-life persona and unorthodox teaching methods become a pivotal compass for our misguided protagonist. A mentor, friend, and occasionally a thorn in the side.

      NoHo Hank: The Cheerful Chechen

Friend? Foe? Or a fabulous frenemy? Anthony Carrigan steals scenes as NoHo Hank, the Chechen mobster with more charisma in his pinky finger than most have in their whole body. Always ready with a smile, Hank's cheerful demeanor is a bizarre contrast to his deadly day job.

      Fuches: The Fumbling Foe

Some say friend, others whisper nemesis; we say Stephen Root's portrayal of Monroe Fuches is a beautifully crafted lesson in how to be hilariously pathetic. As Barry's mentor turned adversary, Fuches' fumbling ways lead to more problems than solutions in the City of Angels.

      Behind The Scenes and Legacy

Before we dive into the gallery of the "Barry" backstage pass, let's shine a spotlight on the exceptional craft of Alec Berg and Bill Hader, whose brainchild has swept us off our feet with its dark thrills and comedy spills. From snagging gleaming Emmy statuettes to embedding itself in pop culture, "Barry" has made quite the impression.

      Creating a Dark Comedy Gem

Pssst... want to know a secret? The making of "Barry" is just as intriguing as its plot twists! Bill Hader, an alum of Saturday Night Live, and Alec Berg, known for his work on "Silicon Valley," executive produced this masterpiece. Fusing bleak crime drama with snickersome beats, "Barry" maneuvered its way through a labyrinth of genres to emerge as a sparkling black comedy diamond. We bet the process was as meticulous as a hitman's day planner—except with more laughs and fewer... accidents.

      Recognition and Awards

Hold the applause! Or actually, don't—because "Barry" has clutched a fistful of Emmys with a grasp as tight as a stage actor's smile. Raking in awards for acting, writing, and directing, it seems Hader's pivot from the SNL stage to HBO's hitman shenanigans was a move as genius as a chess grandmaster's surprise checkmate. It's no secret the series has carved its name onto the awards podium like Barry engraving his, uh, 'work' into the annals of not-so-happy accidents.

      Cultural Impact and Fandom

Speaking of happy, let's chat about "Barry" taking a joyride through Americana quicker than a Happy Days rerun. There's a fandom so eager, they could make Succession devotees seem chill. The show's cultural whammy hasn't just given us killer Halloween costumes but also spiced up watercooler chitchat alongside musings on Get Out or Guillermo Del Toro's latest creepfest. And with whispers of Barry Season 4 tingling our TV senses, our fever for raw, American-made dark comedy doesn't look like it'll let up anytime soon. Stay tuned, folks—this ride ain’t over yet!
