About This Quiz
From the Great Wall of China to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the world has been building walls for thousands of years. The Inca Empire built the Sacsayhuaman in northern Cusco, Peru as a defensive barrier using stone, and it still stands today. The Romans secured their border by surrounding their cities with giant walls. Even Germany built the Berlin Wall to divide the city of Berlin into two sides, East Berlin and West Berlin.
Although these were all constructed as barriers for one reason or another, they all eventually were defeated. The Trojan War ended after the Greeks figured out an easy way to defeat a wall, too. It doesn’t matter if the wall is built to protect a city, patrol a border, or divide a country, they often fail.
Do you know enough about famous walls to ace our quiz?
Famous Walls
Famous walls were built throughout history all over the world. Many were constructed as a barrier to protect a country from foreign invaders. Walls can also be built to memorialize the death of military members from war or by ancient cities to use as a way of keeping their citizens inside. From Roman times and ancient history, to more modern walls, there is a variety of architecture and materials used.
Some of the biggest walls in history were not very tall but were strong and helped slowed down outsiders long enough to allow the military to step in. There are many reasons for it but it can be simple physics. The taller you build a wall, the easier it will be to knock down.
