Portraying characters like Elaine Benes, Christine Campbell, and Selina Meyer has vaulted her to the heights of her profession. Her husband Brad Hall is a writer and actor as well. She won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series at the 1996 Emmy Awards for her Elaine Benes character. She won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Christine Campbell in 2006, and she then won the award six times for portraying Selina Meyer in Veep.
