If you’re a normie, you probably test your internet connection’s durability by memorizing your favorite Reddit posts and scouring the internet for the latest and greatest items of every kind. Nobody beats you when it comes to keeping up with the Joneses, or rather the Average Joes. When you finally leave the keyboard, you probably step out of the house in the same collared shirt and skinny jeans that the people your age wear. When switching your focus from Converse to a conversation, you use terms like “keeping it 100” and “thug life” after you roast somebody with a quip that three of your other normies laughed at out of fear of social ostracizing if they didn’t.

Internet users sling the term in a typically derogatory way, indicating that normies become too entrenched in mainstream trends, to the point of utter boredom and square status. Although older generations are likely less familiar with the term that doesn't receive much usage away from the computer, people use the term more nowadays. The rising popularity of "normie" attracted attention from Merriam-Webster. The famed dictionary categorized the term as a word it's watching for a future formal definition.
"The term normie has emerged as both a noun and an adjective referring to one whose tastes, lifestyle, habits, and attitude are mainstream and far from the cutting edge, or a person who is otherwise not notable or remarkable," Merriam-Webster explains.
