Derry Girls burst onto the scene as a different kind of comedy. This hilarious show takes place in Northern Ireland during the Troubles of the 1990s. It follows a group of girls (and one boy with an English accent) going to a Catholic School called Lady Immaculate College. Despite the difficult times they live in, they have the same concerns as all teenagers, like their friends, getting good grades, and dating. And the result is a hilarious and poignant show.
The show aired for three seasons on Netflix. Each season dove deeper into the five main characters’ lives and their friendship. The main characters all have very distinct personalities, and while watching the show, you may have wondered who you’re most like. Do you have the outspokenness of Erin or the quirkiness of Orla? Or, are you most similar to grade-obsessed Clare or boy-obsessed Michelle? Or, are you more like fish-out-of-water James? If you’re ready to pack your bags and go to Northern Ireland, take this quiz to see where you fit into the Derry Girls world!
Derry Girls
Derry Girls is a Netflix comedy series created by Lisa McGee that follows a group of five friends living in Northern Ireland during the 1990s. The main characters are Erin Quinn (Saoirse-Monica Jackson), Clare Devlin (Nicola Coughlan), Orla McCool (Louisa Harland), Michelle Mallon (Jamie Lee O'Donnell), and James Maguire (Dylan Llewellyn). In addition, the show spends a lot of time in the Quinn household, where Erin's mom Mary, her aunt Sarah, her dad Gerry, and her grandfather Joe live.
The show also spends lots of time with the girls at their Catholic School, which is run by the hilarious Sister Michael, who quickly became a fan favorite. The series has shown its characters in many unique settings throughout its 19 episodes. From meeting Protestant boys for a peace summit to performing together in the school talent show, the series has followed its teen characters through many misadventures. The show won Best Comedy at the 2018 IFTA Gala Television Awards. The third and final season aired in 2022.
